Rabbit Care Volunteer

Volunteers assist our staff with activities that include:

Rabbit Care - assist staff with feeding, cleaning, and enrichment at the shelter.  Shifts are available daily between

  • 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

  • 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

  • 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Shelter Care - sanitizing and organizing the shelter and store

  • Minimum commitment is one 4-hour shift every week for 6 months.

Rabbit Care volunteers must leave a change of clothes, shoes, masks, socks, and laundry bag at the shelter for us to disinfect and store.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • The minimum age to volunteer is 16.  Volunteers between the age of 16 and 18 will be required to have a parent or guardian on site for the entirety of their shift.  Parents will also be required to complete a parental consent form.

  • Access to email since all volunteer communication is done via email

  • Ability to complete training with staff

  • Online Orientation - Once you apply, complete our online orientation from home.  Sign up here.

  • Virtual Meet and Greet  - Meet the San Diego House Rabbit Society staff and learn more about the volunteer roles available.  

  • After the interview, the SDHRS team will let you know which positions are available and your assignment.  Once you have received your volunteer offer, you will be instructed on your next steps.

This entire application process typically takes 3-5 weeks after applying depending on when the volunteer information session is.
